Shirley H. Reid

Mrs. Shirley Holloway Reid was born in Florence County to the late French and Mathonia Holloway on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1937.

Shirley graduated from Florence School District #4 and Denmark Technical College.  Shortly after, she moved to Philadelphia, PA to begin true adulthood.  She married Durant Reid on December 3, 1960.  Her most prideful and joyous positions were mother and homemaker for her family.  As her girls grew older, she returned to Florence, where she was employed at General Electric, Warren’s Fabrics and Florence School District #1.  Shirley loved cooking for family and hosting family dinners for holidays, hosting out of town guests or just because one of the girls were home from college.  She hosted and started the Holloway Family Christmas dinners.

Shirley was a faithful member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church, where she served in Missionary Circle #4; the choir and Bible studies until her health begin to decline.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her loving devoted husband, Durant “Sonny” Reid; three daughters, Michele (Dexter) Kennon of Conyers, GA; Patricia (Jeffrey) Fleming of Conyers, GA and Valerie (Eddie) Henderson of Conyers, GA; five grandchildren, Amber Burgess, Derek Chandler Burgess, Bryce Fleming, Jordan Kennon and E. Silas Henderson, III and one great-grandchild, Jaden Willis; four sisters, Dearia Williamson of Philadelphia, PA, Francenia (Thomas) Cooper of Effingham, SC, Dorothy (Robert) Davis of Decatur, Ga and Dianne (Henry) Sanders of Florence, SC; two brothers, Bernard (Clara) Holloway of Washington, DC and Nathan Holloway of Florence, SC; two brothers-in-law, Clayton (Sandra) Reid and Jerome Reid all of Greeleyville, SC; three sisters-in-law Juanita Brown, Hattie White and Rebecca Hill all of Philadelphia, PA; one aunt, Mamie Merritt, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Also, many friends, which included a special bond with Willie Mae Faison, Byrdie Joseph, Orlean Keith and Sarah Muldrow.

As a daughter, wife, mother, sister, Grandma, G-Mommy, GiGi, aunt, cousin, friend, neighbor, she completed her earthly purpose and journey July 23, 2018.

​

The family is receiving friends at the home, 1631 Reid Lane, Florence, SC.
