Haulean Tindal Smith

08.25.1932            12.12.2017

Haulean T. Smith was born August 25, 1932, in Summerton, SC to Maureen Tindal and Willie Bennett Green.  She departed this life on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.

She grew in Summerton, SC where she attended Scott’s Branch High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1950.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of St Mark AME Church.  Where she was a member of the Steward Board, a Class Leader, a member of the Finance Committee, President of the Lay Organization, President of the Adult choir, and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society.

She was very actively involved in the community and civic affairs.  She served on the Summerton Town Council, a member of Scott’s Branch ’76 Foundation, she was also a member of the Council on Aging, the Clemson Extension, Council of Negro Women, to name a few.

She was united in Holy matrimony to the late Abraham “Bay” Smith in 1954, and this union was blessed with six children, five daughters and one son.  After the passing of her husband, she assumed ownership and operation of Smith’s Grill & Grocery (“Bay Shop”) and continued to serve the community and nurture the young people who patronized the ‘shop’, offering words of encouragement and always lending a listening ear.

Haulean leaves to cherish her memories and mourn her passing, five daughters: Ella Darlean (Joseph) Jenkins, Jacquelyn (Horace) Anthony, Juanita Smith, all of Columbia, SC, Valarie Smith of Norcross, GA, Lyndra (Keith) Bowman of Summerton, SC; one son Bruce Smith of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren: Taj Lee, Fatima Smith, Kierra Bowman, Jazlynn Bowman and Jada Bowman; four great grandchildren; Xaria, Gabriel, Catalina and Ojore Lee; two sister-in-laws, Faye Lawson and Minnie Smith;  a special cousin who was raised as a brother, Lester Robinson; and her loving church family, community and a host of other relatives and friends.
