Mamie Lee Thomas Merritts was born on Thursday, June 16, 1927 to the late Hamp and Hester Howard Thomas.
Mamie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She joined Savannah Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Effingham, South Carolina.
Mamie received her education in the public school of Florence County. She worked in the health care field for many years, caring for others.
Mamie was funny, she said what she meant and meant what she said. She was witty, sassy, direct, compassionate and caring. She had a giving heart, loved to flirt and loved children.
On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Mamie Lee entered into eternal rest in Florence, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Brooks, Mathonia Holloway, Gracia Issard and Martha Thomas; four brothers, Hasker, Willie June, Harry and Mike Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Nathaniel Merritts; six grandchildren, Varrshea Mays, Nathaniel Merritts, Shatara Merritts, Keyana Merritts, DeAndrea Merritts and Jason Merritts; seven great-grandchildren; one special grandchild/caregiver, Angela Cooper; two special cousins, Catherine Cussac and Bertha Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
