Alex Dubose, Jr.
04.03.1955 10.24.2018
Deacon Alex Dubose, Jr., (“Pops” affectionately called by some) son of the late Bro. Alex Dubose, Sr., and the late Mrs. Lucendia Merchant-Dubose was born on Sunday, April 3, 1955 in Summerton, South Carolina.
Alex was reared in a Christian home and attended Mt. Pleasant RMUE Church, Panola, SC. He graduated from Scott’s Branch High School in 1974 and attended Allen University, Columbia, SC.
He met and married the love of his life; his High School sweetheart Shirley M. McFadden on August 28, 1989. Their marriage was heavenly blest as their home was created with bands of love to reach out and make it a safe haven for others. Alex loved his family and greeted others with a warmth spirit of agape love, always encouraging and advising the youth.
He joined the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and thus began his faith walk with the Lord. He chose Deacon Sammie Lee Gaters, Jr. as his deacon. Alex immediately began serving in whatever area he was needed. He became a member of the Trustees’ Ministry and served faithfully. Later, he was elected Chairman of the Trustees’ Ministry. Alex continuously served in that capacity diligently and faithfully. His Spiritual growth was astounding because he had a love for Sunday School and Bible Study. He also attended classes under Black River Congress of Christian Education. He was eager to absorb teachings about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His indication off agreement was, “Thumbs-up and a chuckle”. He often did it in Sunday School and Bible Study. He was chosen and ordained as a Deacon according to the criteria in Acts 6:1-4. Alex also served faithfully with the Trustees and Deacons and Deacons’ Wives Ministries of the Black River Missionary Baptist Association. He remained faithful until his health began to decline. Yet, whenever he felt as though he could sit through a service, he was there; not complaining but in the service of the Lord.
He was employed by Federal-Mogul Corporation, Summerton, South Carolina for twenty-two years.
Deacon Dubose yield to his Master’s call on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Regency Hospital in Florence, SC after a long-term illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, baby boy Dubose; a sister, Jennie F. Dubose; a brother, Abbie Baxter, Jr. and brother-in-law, John Solomon.
