Janie Ragin Washington, daughter of the late Mr. Badger Ragin and Mrs. Gracie Ragin was born in Clarendon County on Monday, April 29, 1932.
Having been reared in a Christian home, Janie joined
Historic Liberty Hill A. M. E. Church, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Janie was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was employed by Federal Mogul for many years and worked faithfully at various restaurants.
Janie was joined in Holy wedlock to the late Robert Washington and to this union, they were blessed with three children.
After marriage, she became a member of St. Mark A. M. E. Church where she sung on the Senior Choir and served for many years as the sexton of the church and wherever she was needed.
She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at her home. Janie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Badger, Henry and Eddie Lee and two sisters, Viola and Rosa Lee.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories; one son, John Edward Washington of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Janet (Michael) Caldwell of Columbia, SC and Christine W. (Jamie) Branch of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Michelle Caldwell of Orange Park, FL, Ashleigh J. Caldwell and Michael Caldwell, Jr., both of Charlotte, NC, Jessica N. Washington of Bowie, MD and Kiana Branch of Chesterfield, VA; three great grandchildren, Kierra S. Caldwell, Xavier A. Hicks and Andraea A. Davis; one brother, Robert (Maggie) Ragin of Sumter, SC, one sister, Mary R. Coleman of Richmond, VA; two aunts, Sarah Washington and Carmilla Washington; two sisters-in-law, Eliza (Marion) Pearson and Janet Pinckney; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends whom will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends at the home, 1050 Delaine Street, Summerton , SC.
